Michael Griswold House

116 GARDEN STREET WETHERSFIELD, CONNECTICUT

The Griswold Family Association owns and maintains an historic house in Wethersfield, Connecticut. The original house was owned by Michael Griswold; most of the house as it exists today was constructed in 1730 by his son, Michael. The half-brothers Edward and Matthew came to North America in 1639, and settled in Windsor, Connecticut. Francis, who may have been a cousin to Edward, was baptized 10th January, 1605/6 at Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire. He came to North America in 1636 and settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Michael appears to be a fourth cousin once removed to Edward and half brothers Matthew and Thomas. Their common ancestor would be John Greswold, Esq., born c. 1440.

THE MICHAEL GRISWOLD HOUSE RESTORATION FUND DRIVE

Our Michael Griswold house is one of the best known structures in the Wethersfield Historic District. We can be very proud of the home and pledge to continue the responsible care of our GFA headquarters and historic landmark. We hope that descendants of Michael, Edward, Francis and Matthew all consider supporting this project. The Michael Griswold house stands as a living community museum of our entire family’s heritage.

Please consider making a donation, a pledge, or memorial contribution. All contributions will be listed in our family GFA Bulletin and on a Restoration Fund Drive plaque we are designing for display at the house. All donations will be deposited in a special account dedicated to the project. Memorial donations are a perfect way to remember and recognize a special member of your family.

Donations in check form should be made out to “Michael Griswold House Restoration Fund” and be mailed to our GFA Treasurer Jack Hooten. Pledge payment commitments should be detailed on the contribution form and the first installment sent with the pledge form. Members also have the option of making payment through Pay Pal.  If you pay online but want to designate a memorial contribution, please send a cover email or letter to the treasurer with all pertinent information.
