Michael Griswold House Hearth

Contributed by Marney Briggs

Used for over the fire cooking and brick oven baking this fireplace is phenomenal. Even with almost 300 years of settling, which you can see in the photo, the face is still almost 7 ft long by 5 ft tall. We tend to add and change the scape through the seasons and currently are enjoying the earth and life tones from the plants and stones. When the wind blows just the right way the scent of past fires gently fills the air.
The andirons, brass bucket and sword are part of the Michael Griswold collection. The sword is hung just as we found it. I also included a photo of the fireplace “undressed” so you can really see the ancient details.
