The Griswold Family Association was founded in 1930 to collect, preserve and disseminate genealogical and historic facts relating to the origin and growth of the Griswold family in America.
The Griswold Family Association (GFA) holds reunions in in August on alternate years. The GFA also issues a quarterly newsletter and other publications, and sponsors tours of interest to our members. Membership to the GFA is open to anyone whose ancestor or whose spouse’s ancestor was surnamed Griswold, including alternative spellings of the name.
The GFA has more than 220 members from 41 U.S. states.
Our publications are invaluable to anyone researching their Griswold lineage. Visit our Publications Page to learn more.
GFA also owns and maintains an historic house in Wethersfield, Connecticut – the original house owned by Michael Griswold, one of the first Griswolds to emigrate to the colonies. Most of the house as it exists today was constructed in 1730 by his son, Michael. Learn more about the Michael Griswold House here.
The GFA also manages the Griswold DNA Project on Family Tree DNA. We strongly encourage any male Griswolds to participate in the Big Y-700 test to help affirm Griswold genealogical lines that might be lacking a paper trail. If more male Griswolds who have documentary evidence of their line participate we can then use that data for those still struggling to find their lineage.
